Just a reminder that the Club Christmas Party is on 12th December 2011
Puppies at 6.30pm older dogs at 7.30pm. We will not be taking bookings on that day and we then break up for Christmas until 9th January 2012.

So the last day to reserve a place on either the Puppy or the Beginners Courses which start on 9th January 2012 is Monday 5th December 2011. There are only a couple of places left on each of these courses and they will be allocated on a first paid basis.

Puppy party 6.30pm commencing with Fancy Dress - for puppies under 6mths and any now over 6mths that attended the Puppy Foundation Courses which commenced in either August or October .
Older Dogs (& Puppies over 6 mths)Party at 7.30pm commencing with Fancy Dress.
Lots of Fun and Games - plus nibbles and soft drinks - raffle and name the Teddy - so bring some pennies.

If your puppy has finished its vaccinations and is ready to start classes now it is suggested that you check on the Warwicklshire web to see if there are other classes available in the area before then as it is important that your puppy starts it's training (with other dogs and puppies as distractions) as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT TO ALL MEMBERS CURRENTLY ATTENDING CLASSES PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
In order to provide some continuity of training, while we finalise a new permanent location for the Club, training classes will take place at Newbold Village Hall (the Old School) on the following dates - all Thursdays, from 7.00pm, 12th May, 19th May 26th May & 2nd June. I will be contacting members of my Puppy Class to confirm a time for their class. Everyone else should attend at their normal time unless advised otherwise.
Parking at the Hall is limited but you will be able to park in the service road opposite (please do not block the entrances to the houses).

Termination of Lease at Rugby Riding Club

There will be a Bronze Good Citizens Dog Scheme test taking place before the AGM so there will be no training that night and we will be unable to sign up any new members. Please do not bring your dog unless taking part in the test or if you are asked to do so by you trainer.

It is now 10 weeks until the commencement of our next set of classes for new members so we will be taking bookings from puppies of 12 weeks and under for the 6.30pm puppy class from this Monday and from older dogs and puppies for the 7.30 Beginners Class. Members Success

Last weekend two of our members ventured into the world of Competitive Obedience by taking part the the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme's Special Prebeginners class at Hatchford Brook DTC's Championship Obedience show. This class is specially designed to encourage people with dogs who have passed at least the Kennel Club's Bronze Good Citizens test to 'have a go' at Obedience Competition with the incentive of possibly qualifying to take part in the Final at Crufts. Heats are held around the Country and from each heat the first collie & the first other breed (not already qualified) go forward to one of the two semi-finals(one in Scotland and one at Discover Dogs in London). At each 'heat' prizes are awarded to 10th place.
Corinna Diamond and her Rottweiler - Nero came 2nd and Gillian Cross with her Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - George(possibly the only SCWT taking part in Obedience) came 9th after a run off for 7th 8th & 9th places (unfortunately by the time of the run off it was quite hot and George 'had had enough)
So as this was a first attempt for both of them they did extremely well beating quite a few people who compete regularly.

URGENT NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS

Due to the adverse weather conditions there will be NO training on Monday 11th January 2010. We hope to be back to normal the following week, but please check if the weather is still bad.

Please also remember to check your dogs feet after walking it in the snow particularly if you have a long coated breed they can easily collect hard balls of snow between the pads which can cause problems.

Training Classes 14th September 2009

Message for ALL members.
We are holding a Gold KCGCDS test on 14th September commencing at 7.00pm.
So the other classes have had to be re-arranged for that night only.
PUPPY CLASS 6.30pm as normal - BUT you will move to 7.00pm the following week 21st September 2009.
7.00pm Bronze KCGCDS class at the normal time BUT members of the 7.30 class will join you.
BEGINNERS 7.30pm class come at 7.00pm and this will be your normal time in the future.
SILVER KCGCDS class 8.00 come at 8.30pm for one week only revert to 8.00pm on 21st September
GOLD KCGCDS class no 'official' class on 14th but if you do decide to come and are not taking the test you can 'join in' with the'Silver' dogs.

For those members of the 7.00pm class who were not at training yesterday, we are holding a Bronze Kennel Club Good Citizens Test at 7.00pm next Monday, so if you wish to take the test you will need to bring your grooming kit and check what else you need on the information sheets you were given. Dogs MUST have the correct identification on their collars to take the test and you must have a means of picking up after your dog. You cannot use treats while you are actually doing an exercise under test, although you can use them in between exercises. Also you cannot use a 'Headcollar' or Harness while under test.
We are also doing a Silver test for the 8.00pm class on the same day at 7.00pm although most of that test will take place outside again correct identification is a must and no Harnesses, 'Headcollars' or treats while under test. Don't forget your 'poo' bags.

For those members who are currently in the 6.30pm or the 7.30pm classes Monday 27th of April is the last week of your 8 week course, so after the May Day Bank Holiday (no training that day) you will all move to the 'Bronze' class at 7.00pm on 11th May.

The Committee gives notice that the AGM of Ashlawn Dog Training Club will be held at 8.00pm on Monday 30th March 2009,
at Rugby Riding Club.

This is your opportunity to elect officers to the Committee; a form for nominations will be available for the next few meetings on the desk at Club.
Officers and Committee members serve for a term of two years with approximately half retiring each year (details of this year’s retirees are on the nomination form).
If you have any questions or suggestions you would like discussed in Any Other Business at the AGM please hand these in to the Committee by Monday 23rd March 2009.

The presentations of the Club’s Progress Awards will take place during the evening so please come along and acknowledge the hard work the recipients have put in to training their dogs.

Tea, Coffee and Biscuits will be supplied

We always need volunteers from the members who are willing to help!
So do try to attend and support your Club.

The first three classes will be held as normal. The 8.00pm and 8.30pm classes will be cancelled on that evening so if you attend those two classes please do not bring your dog unless asked to do so by your trainer.

Puppy Foundation Team Demonstration at Crufts 2009

I've uploaded a couple of photos of the team demonstration at Crufts. Sadly one of the team members was unable to attend due to her puppy being attacked and bitten by another dog a couple of days before Crufts. Please be careful with your puppies and don't allow then to approach 'strange' dogs unless you are absolutely sure that the dog is good natured and will not object to having it's space invaded by a youngster.

Official Opening of the Kennel Club's New Venue at Stoneleigh Park

Several Club members attended and witnessed Prince Michael of Kent declare the New Kennel Club Building at the Royal Showground Stoneleigh officially open on 14th February 2009.
Four members also took part in the Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Scheme tests which were carried out as part of the activities taking place, and I'm, pleased to say with 100% pass record. Those passing the Bronze test were Marilyn with Amy, Jen with Woody, and Andrew with Prince, while Gillian with George passed the Silver level.

Ashlawn Puppies at Crufts

Once again Ashalwn DTC has been invited to provide a team of three puppies (together with a team leader/instructor) to demonstrate the Kennel Club Good Citizens Puppy Foundation Scheme exercises in the Good Citizens Dog Scheme ring at Crufts on Friday 6th March & Sunday 8th March 2009.
Unfortunately, because of the late arrival of the invitation and the recent snow, many of our current puppies couldn't be considered as owners were unable to get time off from work.
The lucky ones are: Tina Wilkins with Digger (a Beagle), Marilyn La'Viniere with Amy Larue (a crossbreed) and Suzanne Proctor with Florin (a Wire Haired Dachshund).
Doris Winmill (Ashlawn DTC's president) will be acting as team leader.
We wish them all the best of luck and Have a good time.

We need to take URGENT action
Before it is too late

Well the response from Dog Owners must have had some affect on the Council as they have decided to extend the Consultation Period for a further 2 months, so keep up the pressure so that your dogs still have the right to free exercise

Rugby Borough Council has quietly publicised a consultation document on new laws for dogs in Rugby.

If we do not make our comments known on this it will go into legislation and become law!
Copies of the leaflet are available at the Town Hall and we should have some available at Club on Monday evenings and I would draw your attention to the fact that the Council propose to make it a local law that dogs will not be allowed off lead in

Featherbed Lane, Whinfield and Whitehall Recreation grounds, as well as Assheton Recreation ground Bilton and Caldecote Park. Most of these are major local areas for dog owners in Rugby to exercise their dogs off lead and it would be a severe loss to the local community and a retrograde step for the dogs’ health and wellbeing as owners without transport will have nowhere to run their dogs off lead. The other point worth mentioning which is also in order 2 is that dogs will have to be kept on lead on all public roads, verges, pavements and footpaths in Rugby. You may believe this is a good idea, but the rule will apply to all land in the open air in Rugby which has public access. What we need to be worried about here is the word ‘footpaths’. If you exercise your dog at the moment anywhere in Rugby that has a footpath through it you will have to keep the dog on the lead or be liable to be fined by an enforcement officer. The Environmental team at the Town Hall have been contacted to query the wording of the document and we have been assured verbally that this is not a misprint it will cover every piece of open ground in Rugby and in order to access those you HAVE to use a footpath.
Neither Rugby Dog Training Club nor Ashlawn Dog Training Club have been consulted on this, and it looks like no advice has been sought from any experienced group, it appears that a group of councillors got together to propose this ill thought out legislation.
Make your voice heard now; doing nothing is not an option even if you don’t use one of the recreation grounds involved you should pass comment on it because if this gets through more than likely you will find your local exercise area is effectively also turned into a lead only area becasue of the clause regarding 'footpaths'.

New Training Courses

Due to the popularity of our Dog & Puppy Training Classes we have decided to instigate a 'resgistration' system for new Beginner Dogs & Puppies. The next course for both will start on Monday 6th October 2008, class times as shown.
If you wish to register your dog or puppy for either of these classes you are advised to come along to Club one Monday during September to reserve your place on the course. Numbers are strictly limited so early registration is advised.
The initial course will last for 8 weeks and cost £15.00, you can then continue to attend to achieve your Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Scheme awards.
